Custom characters require a .png file containing a spritesheet and a .json file with its properties. Both files must be placed in the same directory, using the same filename.
These files can be included directly in a level’s working directory, or in a separate folder with the same name as the character.

The easiest way to learn the custom character format is typically by copying and modifying and existing one! All characters in Rhythm Doctor can be downloaded as custom characters directly from the level editor, from Row Settings > Character > New. A blank template can also be created.

Custom characters can be added to your editor’s character picker ****by creating a folder for them in the directory Documents\Rhythm Doctor\Characters. This allows them to be suggested and imported for any level.

The character sheet must be a 2D spritesheet in .PNG format. Many tools and programs can generate this for you.
Additional spritesheets may be included in the character’s directory to enable support for outlines, glows, and freeze effects. These files will be automatically generated upon importing a character without them.
